Leading the judging panel for this competition was best-selling author and seasoned book reviewer, Danuta Reah. Danuta has commented specifically on the quality of the entry which was outstanding. This has had its downside as we never longlist more stories than will fit into the final anthology and we have several good entries that just didn’t quite make the cut. We hope to see these authors coming back to us in future competitions.
What were we looking for?
We were looking for the darkest, most twisted dystopian stories. The topic was 'Fire and Ice'. The entries were amazing. Longlisting has never been harder, but we made some tough decisions and cut the knot at 25 stories. After the judging is finished our editors will get to work on the long list and see which stories will make it all the way into the Fire and Ice anthology.
