Penny Frances

penny francesPenny Frances has an MA Writing from Sheffield Hallam University and writes accessible literary fiction. She has had short stories published in literary magazines, including Mslexia, The Interpreter’s House, and Dream Catcher, and online with Horizon Review, Fictive Dream and Toasted Cheese. She was a prize winner with the Southport Writers Circle Open Short Story Competition and has been shortlisted for the Bournemouth Writing Prize, Ilkley Literary Festival Competition and Flash 500 Short Story Competition. Her debut novel Riding the High Road follows a young man’s journey to connect with his sperm-donor biker father in the Scottish Highlands.

Originally from London, she has lived in Sheffield for nearly since 1985, balancing the demands of writing, day job (with the Council), and family. She is now in the process of moving to Scotland with her husband. Being married to an artist helps keep alive her interest in art, and annual visits to Scotland (sometimes on his motorbike) have provided the impetus for her novel, along with her experience of being a single parent to a son, conceived in 1996 with self-insemination.
